Having a business website is a no-brainer, but what to include on your business website isn’t always that simple. Ever since the arrival of content management systems like WordPress and visual page builders like Divi; it’s easier than ever to design and launch your website without the help of a professional web designer.

However, one of the things you miss out on when working with a professional is their insider knowledge of what really makes a website successful. Today, I’m sharing 7 things that make a business website successful.

1) Clear Navigation Menu: Use simple words like Home, About, Blog, Shop, and Contact in your navigation menu. Avoid cluttering your menu with too many links and stick 5 – 6 essential pages.

2) Email Opt-in: You should be collecting emails from people who visit your website to keep in touch with them in the future. Consider adding a pop-up or an opt-in at the footer of your website. You can even take it a step further and create a freebie library filled with lead magnets that your visitors can download in exchange for their email address.

3) Metrics & Analytics: It’s essential to know how your website is performing and what can be improved. There are components like the bounce rate, the referrals, as well as the conversion rates that should be monitored so you can see how successful your business is, and specifically, how good your website is doing. Signing-up for a Google Analytics can help you measure your website’s success.

4) Call To Actions: Call to action tell visitors what they need to do on every page. Some typical call-to-actions are a link to book a call, sign-up for your email list, or check out your services.

5) Contact Info: You should at minimum have a contact page with an email address and phone number that your visitors can get in touch with you. A bonus is if you include links to your social profiles.

6) Fast Loading Times: Nobody likes a slow loading website, and according to Google, most sites should load in under 3 seconds. Not to worry though – tools like WPRocket can quickly help decrease load times and create a better experience for your website visitors.

7) Content Strategy: I get it! Most business owners don’t like blogging for their business. However, according to HubSpot, it is the piece of your marketing plan that continuously demonstrates who you are and the expertise you bring to your industry. Having a solid content strategy enables you to educate your audience. It also reinforces that your product or service is the ideal solution to their problem.
